Reality Check with Reza Farahan – Shahs of Sunset

When we published Reza as a potential guest on facebook we received passionate feedback on both sides, some disgusted, others excited! Having seen a few episodes, we thought we would bring the boldest, most interesting, and by far the most controversial character (from the common Iranian’s point of view) on the show. Reza, known for his thick mustache and his gay sexual orientation, joins us to give first hand breakdown of the show, how it got started, community reactions, and Reza’s take on that reaction.

  1. I listened to the Reza Shah’s interview and I have some questions to ask.

    1) I think it is a great idea to talk about Homosexuality and interviewing successful, intellectual Gays, but why REZA?

    2) Almost all my cousins are half Muslim half Christian/Jew and I have seen their family conflicts and problems and it would be a great idea to hear these people but again why REZA?

    3) Do you guys truly believe Shah’s of Sunset is fighting against Islamophobia? Does GG,Assa, DJ and Reza are changing public opinions regards Iranians and terrorism? for sure they are changing public opinions about Iranians but not in the way that Hooshang said on the show. I have heard couple of Americans talking about this show when they hear I am Persian! and it makes me really sad.

    4) Are you really proud of the show and their casts? Even if some of you are, don’t you think it would be better to have one who presents the opposite opinion on the show? I know Iman nicely said what he thinks about this show but he did not talk to Reza. I have heard people say: Iranican is a big fan of Shahs of Sunset ! is that what you want? Are you trying to have an entertaining (radio) show like them but you can not because you are not cool enough?

    5) I do not need to mention how good or bad my English is, at the beginning of this note, because you would know as soon as you start reading this note.Seriously, did Hooshan gneed to mention how good is Reza’s farsi? Hadaf !!! If you loved Reza and you tried to rise his reputation, the show did the opposite. People who listened to the show are now making more fun of him.

I do not dislike Reza. he is doing what ever he is in to, and it is non of my business. I am talking about iranican and I do care about what your cast are into.

Daste hamegi dard nakone and thanks for your time.

    1. There is no such thing as half muslim half jew or half muslim half christian. Your either Muslim or you arent. Reza himself identifies as jew even though his fathers side of the family who are the jewish ones dont accept him as a jew. He is certainly not a Muslim in any way.

  2. From now on, Please have a more critical type of interview. He is not Brad Pitt for God sake! He said half of his words in English when he was trying to speak Persian, but the interviewer guy (Hooshang i think!) said the Iranians in Iran should learn from him!
Overall i think these type of interviews should say both point of views, but this interview just spoke from minority of Iranians.

  3. Hi,

I have comments about this episode, first of all, why do you guys think that this show improves Iranian’s social appearance?!! I know all the reality shows are about this but the only thing that they are showing is some Iranian guys are always in struggle with each other and they are talking in behind of their back!! I have seen no proud in this show! Why do you guys exaggerate about and gave him fake compliments?! He talked almost 70% of the show in English, and then one of the interviewers said wow you speak farsi very fluently!!! I don’t want to blame him at all, but want ask you to be realistic and act in way so you audience take you serious. It’s good to mention good/bad sides of each issue at the same time, not just praising it because it is Iranian!

Btw, thanks for your programs, its very interesting to see you guys are gathering there and producing a program.

  4. I love all people and the fact we get to see and here how their view of their culture is to me is wonderful. We all as people need to stop judging other and leave that up to the Almighty. All races have good and bad seeds so at the end of the day, I learned a lot that I didnt know about Persian culture

  5. i dont know why he became a idol suddenly?
i think being a gay it is noting to be proud of it.
being a gay its like a addiction, killer, being insane
    its a disgusting.how can a man interest a guy instead of having sex with a beauty lady,having a greet family,being a good father…?
so interview with pity killer & inform that killing people have a greet filling that maybe some f us dont understand it….
