Racist Iranians II

Download the MP3: (High Quality)

As a continuation of last week’s show, in part II, Iman, Nasim and two guests will be discussing the roots of racism among Iranians.  Through laughter and jokes, our co-hosts bring up issues that many face as a result of their cultural backgrounds.  Though racism is no joking matter, what better way to fight against negative stereotypes than through laughter? Cultural awareness is one of the most effective ways to decrease discrimination and laughter enables people to diminish their hostilities toward people of other ethnic and cultural backgrounds.  But, is there really a fine line between the shades of gray? When does it get out of hand?  We read and discussed some of your comments, and finally asked an astute student of psychology to chime in on how racism is derived both geographically and historically in Iran.  Join us tonight in laughing and even better… learning more about our cultural differences!

  2. In regards to your next topic (Admin jan ye lotfi kon in comment ro ham mesle un yeki part kon un var)

Mard o zan az nazare physiki aslan ba ham mosavi neestand. Man nemidoonam kasi inja mosabegheye tennis negah mikoneh ya nah? A good illustration of this can be seen in a professional tennis match. In professional tennis, Men play best of 5 set matches whereas women only play best of 3. Biology unfortunately makes women physically inferior to men.

  3. Hi guys,

I was listening to your show (as always while I was working :P) and told my step-dad about the “Akhavan Sales” poem that Iman told which he translated: “na az romam na az zangam, manzoore akhavan sales ine ke az shargho gharbo iran nistam faghat ye ensanam” so I told this to my step dad (feeling arrogant and confident :P) but hi said that: chon akhavan sales ke dar beyte dovvom as birangi gofte pas dar beyte avval Rumi va zangi be onvane sambole seffidi va siahi oomade (chon rommiha sefidan va zangia siah) khastam behetoon begam chon man khodam aslan nemidoonestam :)

Thanks for the great show, you make my working times go fast :)

  6. Salam bacheha, khaste nabashin. I wanted to make a few comments. First of all like many others, i believe in the absolute equality of all human by default. Any given person should only be treated and judged based on his/her actions regardless of heritage and ethnicity. Therefore i believe that no Afghan in this case should be judged based on the actions of his/her countrymen. If he commits a crime in Iran (given that he is legally residing in Iran), should be prosecuted and trialed based on the same laws that any other Iranian is subject to, no more, no less. Secondly i would like to mention that many of us “anti-arabs” dont actually hate Arabs. Many of us have Arabic friends and live alongside them in harmony and peace as we do with everyone else. That being said, we pride ourselves in being Arian to Separate ourselves from Arabs. We dont hate Arabs, we simply dont like being associated with them and what they have brought to our culture. This is mainly rooted in our rebellion against religion and this is how many of us showcase it. Be it the fault of religion or the state that used the name of religion, the emergence of Islam in our country has had more than negative effects and our otherwise thriving civilization seems to have been going down a slippery slope ever since the invasion of Arabs in the end of the 7th century. So im sure many would agree with me that its not a hatred or dislike towards Arabs today as many of Iranians actually protest in support of Palestine (as an example). It is simply the fact that like many other nations, we have patriotic feelings and dont enjoy being taken for people we are not. This objection is enhanced in the case of Arabs because of the consequences of their actions and attacks in Iran. But to be fair, even us Persians have invaded other countries and take pride in how vast Persia was. And eventhough we might have treated the invaded with much more respect and fairness, the act of war and taking over their land was all the same. You dont invade a land without bloodshed. So i think we need to separate a hatred for Arabs with not wanting to be taken as one. My last and THE MOST IMPORTANT part of my rant is about Shahed. I used to comment on her in regards to her constantly speaking English in an Iranian show. But i went back and re-listened to a few of your other podcast and i think the problem runs deeper than her merely speaking English. I think she just hates Persians! Stay with me here now, ill explain. She constantly bashes Persians and our culture and way of life. For example in your April/20th (i believe) podcast, she called herself white washed with American values (which is her choice of course) and when she was asked in what ways she is different, she said that Perisians are UNNATURAL and OGHDE EE! how do you guys stand for this? Im all about proper fact-based criticism and by no means i think we are a perfect race but to go on and bash us in our own program becase you just hate us in your own personaly opinion is completely uncalled for and unaccepted! And in your last show, she comes on and talks about how every Lebonese and Arab guy is so much better looking than Persian guys and how she would take them any day over Persian guys. I know my comment will quickly be dismissed as “jealousy” and the common rebuttals but how do you stand for such an Iranian hater in your show? Seriously guys, everything has a limit. I know youre being politically correct but i think youre way over doing it! To have someone on your show who doesnt like to speak in our language, constantly bashes everything we stand for and openly degrades us and holds American values over ours in a Persian program is just bogus! In your fob v.s whitewashed podcast she basically said that anyone who is not whitewashed and completely Americanized is inferior. Of course she said it in so many words. So please, before you dismiss my comment about her, go back and listen to your past pod casts and judge for yourselves. I wouldnt spend this much time writing this just out of personal dislike, she seriously doenst like Perisns. And remember, WE HAVE ENOUGH WESTERN PROPAGANDA AND CHANNELS BASHING US AND DEGRADING IRANIANS AND MOTORIZING OUR NATIONALITY . WE DONT NEED TO DO THE SAME TO OURSELVES!
