We here at Iranican are very worried: Our headquarters in Northern California is already near a seismic
fault-line, susceptible to an earthquake anytime now.
This week, two pieces of news have come together that could make California’s “Big One” come much sooner than we imagined: Iranian Islamic Republic cleric Kazem Sedighi declares that women who don’t wear modest clothing can cause earthquakes, and the announcement from ‘Jersey Shore’ creators that they are looking for “hard partying Persian women” to be in their new Reality TV show, ‘Persian Version.’
The worry is, how much of an ‘earthquake’ will this new Persian ‘Jersey Shore’ show cause?
On this week’s Iranican Live, the crew talks about the prospects of the ‘Persian Version’ and about other Reality TV shows that have portrayed Iranians throughout the last couple of years.
Are these shows good for our image?
Should we boycott the upcoming ‘Persian Version’ show?
Should we just calm down and see how the show will turn out?

I really loved your debate on the Persian Version,and I agreed with some of the things you guys said. Personally I think that it means alot for MTV to release a reality tv show about Persians,and Im sure/ hoping that the persinettes or persian snookys wont make themselves look bad. Even the way Jersey shore kids acted werent that bad because almost my whole high school wanted to be them. Anyways im excited and cant wait to watch it on air! By the way I love litsening to you guys,and I count the days till your next show.

1. اصولا مسئله این نیست که بنشینیم و بحث کنیم که این ممکنه خوب باشه یا بد
باید درمورد راههایی بحث کنیم که بشود بهترین نتیجه را ازش گرفت
حتی برنامه های ضبط شده از قبل هم امواج متغیری را در مردم درهنگام پخش بدنبال می آورند؛ حالا اینکه دیگه اسمشه

2. فرض کنیم که این برنامه نقائصی از ما را نیز برملا کرد…آیا این عاقلانه و پذیرفته است که برویم و شکایت کنیم چرا اشکالات مارا “بادبان” می کنید (اصطلاح “طشت از بام افتادن” هم بر همین معنا اشاره دارد)؟
آیا این نشانه قوت ما بحساب آورده می شود یا ضعف ما که از آشکارشدن سنن و آداب و رسوم درونی ما هراس داشته باشیم؟ (همه از

حرف می زنند، این دیگه از ترس گذشته و فوبیا است!!)
اینجاست که یکی از اوتاد مشایخ، شیخ ایمان الدین کشکولی در کتاب وزین “اخبارالحالیه” می فرماید: “اون فرهنگ چندهزارساله ایکه با این چیزها بخواهد خراب شود بدرد [لای جرز دیوار] می خورد” (

3- حتی اگر یک تصویر باژگونه و ناجوانمرادنه هم از ما نشان بدهند، ماباید از الان فکر کنیم چطور می توانیم پیشدستی کنیم و به اصطلاح “افکار عمومی را مدیریت کنیم”.. موقعیتی را فکر کنید که در یک مجلس، فردی هزلگو می خواهد شما را استهزا کند؛ عموما بهترین روش این نیست که وسط داستان بزنید تو دهنش، روش معقولتر اینه که اونو از رو ببرید…طوریکه سرشو بندازه پایین و یواشکی در ره…
4- اصولا چرا ما باید اینقدر منفعل و محتاط باشیم؟ ترسو، خجالتی و همه اش دنبال “آبروداری”؟ نیاکان ما اینجوری امپراطوری می ساختند؟؟؟
نگران اینکه چه تصویری از ما نشان بدهند؟!؟
مگر خودمان مرده ایم که دیگران باید نشانمان بدهند؟
ما باید فعال و پرواکتیو باشیم و پیشدستی کنیم
همه از لابیهای قدرتمند یهودیها در آمریکا می نالند، ولی واقعا اگر عرضه دارید (و البته داریم) چرا مانه؟ اگر اختلافات درونی کم شود (کنارکه نمی توانیم بگذاریم!!) قدرت سازماندهی ایرانیها بهترین بوده است.
درهرصورت،
از کلام شیخنا استفاده کرده و نتیجه می گیریم که وظیفه ما این نیست که پامون روی اون یکی پامور بندازیم و بحث کنیم که این خوبه یا بده…
موضوع اصلی بحث باید این باشد که “چه کنیم که خوب باشد”
درضمن بجای اینکه اینقدر نگران کلیشه ایکه از ما نشان می دهند باشند، باید بدانیم اصولا ما باید “چندین” کلیشه داسته باشیم. باید بعضیهایشان خوب و باکلاس و شسته و رفته و بهداشتی (تو مایه های همایشهای “پایا”) باشد و بعضیها هم کثیفتر که بتوانند ضربه گیر احساسات منفی باشند و بصورت کچل
(catchall)
عمل کنند. البته توصیف سایکودینامیکیش در این مقال نمی گنجد.
فقط همین بس که، مهم فقط محتوای کلیشه نیست، مهمتر تعدادشان است که بصورت یک سیستم پیوسته از سمبولها، بتوانند قدرتمندانه عمل کنند. درواقع منظوراینکه هرکلیشه ای هم باشه، یکی کمه و ناقصه..
بیت: عمر اگر خوش گذرد من که یه خانم کممه
ور به ناخوش گذرد، این یکی هم مشکلمه
(توضیح واضحات اینکه؛ این بیت اصلا ربطی به “چند همسری” ندارد و به ی معانی عرفانی عمیقی اشاره می کند)
باید درواقع به این فکر کنیم که این “چی” می سازد، که در موجی که بدنبال خود درست می کند، بتوانیم بقیه هایش را، بیشتر مطابق میل خودمان بسازیم.

I’d have to say that I really like the show but living in DC I have to admit when I think of my LA persians, I think of the stereotypical snobby, spoiled persian who doesn’t know how to fend for themselves without baba joon’s credit card. I mean I LOVE being persian, but I think a lot of our community is based on pointless materialism. So you own a BMW? Who cares. I went over to Orange County to see my cousin Seyed and honestly I could only take his friends in small doses. Does anyone feel this way?
I have to say that I love your show and have been a “Podcast” downloader for a while now… I do have to make a comment about your discussion regarding the people that live in Mississippi and what they think. I am taking this comment as people who live in the mid to mideastern part of the US. One of the guys’ mentions that the only thing people on this side think about is (EYE)ranians..They don’t watch Neda on CNN. They did 911.. The Fox News People. Come on…. There are Iranians all over this world even in the “dahat” of Mississippi…. Your comments are very offensive.
Should we or should we not is not the question. SOS(Speido O Siah)toronto popular magazine has been able to successfully over come lots of issue and talks about sexuality and publish Xrated images in farsi at toronto and internationally and push the boundaries. why not again?
@Parastoo: Thanks for the comment. I was the co-host that made the “Mississippi” comment you were referring to. My intention was not to disparage everybody from Mississippi, as we all know there are millions of intelligent/enlightened people in the state. My comment was a response to Elnaz’s statement that people in rural parts of the country would believe that all Iranians are like the one’s they might see on “Persian Version” b/c rural ppl don’t currently have any opinion on Iranians. I respnded that they probly did have feelings about “Eye-ranians”. Though I apologize if my generalization offended you, the fact of the matter is that 70% of ALL Americans believed in 2003 that Saddam had a role in 9/11. IF someone from the Bible Belt reads newspapers, all they prob know about Iran is that the Prez wants to “Wipe Israel off the map”. If the don’t read newspapers, they don’t even know that. Ppl in these parts of the country, through no fault of their own, may have never been exposed to flashy, wealthy, educated, or successful Iranians. So they’re opinion is whichever one fits easiest into their pre-conceived notions of us. Hence the EYE-ranian comment. I’d be happy to continue this discussion with you anytime. Thanks for listening.
