It seems every time we turn on the news these days, we see people protesting against their governments. Whether it be Tunisia and Egypt this year or Iran last year, most of these movements seem to bring us all back to one fundamental issue: our fundamental rights.

Where did these rights come from? Are they God-given? Or did we just make them up? Either way, we can be proud that the first known mention of Human Rights was when Cyrus the Great placed a proclamation on a cylinder, claiming that all the land he has conquered can keep their religion, and that his reign will not be imposed on them.

Fast forward to World War II, when the Allied Powers realized that in order to prevent another Hitler, these human rights must be declared at an international level, and thus was created the United Nations and the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Now in the 21st Century, we are STILL struggling with the issue of Human Rights, and, like it or not, the majority of the world doesn’t even know what it really is, or has never heard of the concept.

Is it hopeless? Does it even matter if others have these rights?

Team Iranican delves into this issue, explaining the basics of what is Human Rights, and whether we’ll ever have full Human Rights here and around the world.
