It’s Confirmed as of Aug 29th! There is no better news for Iranian Americans this week than having Hamed Hadadi play for the Memphis Grizzlies. What Iranians have never had in America is an iconic athlete who would be close, familiar, and respected by the American Families and fill in the information gap which has alienated the two nations apart and allowed for the dehuminisation of Iranians. The closest popular athlete in the history of the US in the past 30 years was Andre Aggasi whom denied his country of origin at his time of glory and never really made any significant association with Iranians thereafter. Recently, like vollyball and martial arts, Iran’s basketball team grew strong and strong enough to now hold the championship title in the continent, which in turn opened the door to the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
But the most important step Iranian basketball took prior to its opener in Beijing, was their trip to U.S. and playing against NBA teams such as Dallas Mavericks, and the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City’s Rocky Mountain Revue. Despite leading in the first quarter of all three games, Iran lost, but at least they showed a presentable team, with big potentials.

My name is Daniel Ahmadizadeh and I’m a junior at the Bronx High School of Science in NYC. I’ve been a huge fan of Hamed Haddadi ever since Iran was crowned Asian Champions. I’ve created a facebook fan page for Hamed, as well as other e-marketing pages on the internet to increase Hamed’s fan base. I’m an aspiring basketball player myself, currently the captain of my schools team. I wanted to know if by any chance your radio station or website can mention my fan page or anything of that nature . He’s an ambassador for his country, and with 3 million Iranian-Americans in the US, both Hamed and the Grizzlies organization could largely profit from that (not to mention the 70 million back home). Sports can coalesce two countries together. The 1998 World Cup in France is just one of many examples. During the Cold War a player by the name of Arvydas Sabonis of the USSR, who is said by many to be the biggest “what if” in NBA history, was not allowed to play in the NBA due to US-Soviet relations. The burden of representing a country is big in itself, even if you are 7″2. Hamed Haddadi needs to be a household name for all Iranian-Americans. I think if you guys show Iranian girls in bathing suits or your female reporters report in the nude it will help your ratings.Just an idea i have cause it seems like you guys dont know what to report on.for example one week you guys should go around to colleges and look for pretty Iranian girls and have a contest to see who wins by online voting.Ive got tons of more ideas for your shows if your intrested please send me an e-mail.
